Intuitive Art for Stress Relief Workshop

Come and join for a hot cocoa, art making, and a relaxing atmosphere. In the Intuitive Art for Stress Relief Workshop, participants will:
- Experience measurable stress relief through nonjudgmental art making.
- Express thoughts and feelings visually using intuitive collage and mixed media.
- Explore creative processes without the pressure of technical skill, focusing on presence and flow, which are linked to well-being.
!!!No artistic skills required!!!
Research shows that creative art making can reduce psychological stress and promote relaxation. Studies also indicate that even brief artistic activity lowers markers of stress and supports emotional regulation and self-expression. For example, art making has been associated with reduced anxiety and agitation and can activate reward pathways in the brain that support positive affect and relaxation.
Furthermore, qualitative evidence suggests that creative activities help participants externalize complex emotions, foster self-awareness, and provide non-verbal avenues for emotional expression.
The workshop will take place in Katve Art Space, Kinaporinkatu 2, Sörnäinen, on January 24, from 13 to 16.
About the facilitator:
Claudia Varjotie has a master’s degree in Creativity and Arts in Social and Health Fields. Her thesis’ topic is on how informal caregivers can be supported to promote creative activities to their dementia care recipients in a way that the dyad feels the benefits of engaging in such activities. Stress relief is one of the greatest reasons people seek creative activities.

ON THE WALL
Luna Lunatic is an intergalactic dog exploring the universe aboard her spaceship, the Starhopper SOM1, in search of extraordinary adventures. Although Luna often appears a little clueless, her curious spirit leads her to the most fascinating and unusual planets—none of which remain quite the same after her visit.
“On the Wall” is the title of this illustration part of the first story from the Luna Lunatic, the Intergalactic Dog series, set on the peculiar Splitz Planet. Upon arrival, the Starhopper crash-lands directly onto a wall dividing the planet. The inhabitants on each side harbor strong dislikes toward one another, and for reasons—like their choice of socks! Luna walks on the wall to find places where she can do some work until she pays the fine (for crash-landing on the wall, of course!). Through her clueless behaviour, she inadvertently triggers resolutions to the planet’s long-standing conflict. Or perhaps her actions weren’t so clueless after all? That remains a mystery.
Luna Lunatic was created as the central character in a series of books I am currently writing and illustrating. These stories explore themes of empathy, equity, inclusivity, and critical thinking—topics that deeply inspire my creative work. I am positive these books will find publishers and will be available for the small and big readers.
The character Luna is actually inspired on our dog, with the same name 🙂
